Apollo Hospital to establish training centre in State

SHILLONG: Chennai-based Apollo Hospital, a premier medical centre of the country, is now all set to establish a training centre in the Hilly State.

This was asserted by Chief Executive Officer of Apollo MedSkills Ltd, Dr K Prabakar, here on Wednesday.

The training centre is proposed to be set up with an intention of imparting skill development in paramedical education in the State.

Apollo Hospital is venturing in the State under its pilot project and the project will be the first of its kind in the North East region, adding the proposed centre will be the first of the 47 centres to be set up across the country.

Dr Prabakar informed that the Meghalaya centre is expected to come up by Janaury-March 2013.

He also said that the project aims at providing job opportunities and reducing growing unemployment problems in the region.

The courses are designed for students who have passed their XIIth standard.

“We are bringing in a one-year diploma courses with internship opportunity in hospitals along with skill and knowledge development simultaneously,” he said.

The institute has identified a 3000 sq ft land for setting up of the centre which will have three classrooms equipped with assimilation laboratory, computer laboratory and video conferencing facilities.

He also informed that the Meghalaya centre will have two different courses – one for upscaling doctors while other will be for students from the Higher Secondary level.

Dr Prabakar informed that one course will be for upscaling doctors and nurses while the other is for students from the higher secondary level of education.
