Agartala: The Consumer Coordination Council(CCC) has demanded strict action against non-banking financial institutions (NBFI) and fake organizations which have become a cause of concern for common people across the North East.
Referring to the 1st North Eastern Regional Consumer Convention (NERCC) held recently at Guwahati, CCC Chairman Amrita Lal Saha stated that a four-point recommendation was accepted at the convention to ensure consumers’ right protection.
He alleged that the NBFIs had been looting crore of rupees and cheating Common Consumers and Investors in the North Eastern region in various forms but unfortunately the governments and law enforcing agencies had not yet taken proper action to eliminate the menace.
“On the issue of black-marketing and shortage of supply in cooking gas, NERCC recommends strict adherence of Regulations and Marketing Discipline Guidelines for LPG by Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) in respect of refill booking, booking for new connections, Weighment and Seal checks,” Mr Saha said. He added that with the FDI in many sectors in India, adequate regulation was needed to regulate the foreign entities in India and to protect Indian consumers.
It was resolved that a strong Federation of North Eastern Consumer Organizations be set up to work together for the cause of common consumers and it highlighted the issues of high prices of essential commodities, uncontrolled bus, maxicab and auto rickshow fare, adulteration of petroleum products, mismanagement in PDS, black-marketing of LPG and misleading advertisement.
