TURA: The Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) recently organized a signature campaign across Garo Hills in protest against the practice of nepotism and irregularities in the appointment of Assistant Teachers in Government Lower Primary Schools of the state.

The signature campaign ‘Fight Against Malpractices and Nepotism’ started from Tura and was later followed in various other places of Garo Hills including Williamnagar, Ampati, Phulbari, Dadenggre, Chokpot, Mendipathar, Selsella, Tikrikilla, Rongram and Durabanda.

The campaign which is getting an excellent response from the general public has not only made the people aware of the unlawful methods being practiced by some government employees and representatives but has also planted a seed of responsibility to fight such irregularities in unity.

Most of the people who participated in the campaign expressed their grief over such malpractice and nepotism in the Education department. “Such malpractices should not be a part of recruiting and appointing of teachers since teaching is a noble profession,” said FKJGP working president Thomas Ringrang A Sangma.
