Basic Sciences workshop held

SHILLONG: A three-day workshop on Basic Sciences for the first year Science students was organised by St. Anthony’s College on Friday. The workshop was organised with an aim to provide the students with a hands-on learning experience of the science behind the everyday phenomena and the mundane things seen around us.

The three- day workshop which was inaugurated on December 5 by the Rector of the St. Anthony’s College Community, Rev Fr Sagi Stephen, witnessed the participation of more than three hundred students of different honours subjects of the Science stream.

Certificates were distributed to the students by the principal of the College, Rev Bro Albert L Dkhar at the valedictory programme held on Friday.

Mathematics workshop in city

Despite the fact that the literacy rate in the north east is high, it is very unfortunate to note that there is no subsequent rise in job opportunities for the educated youth of the state and the region as a whole, observed the chairperson of the National Academy of Science, India (NASI)-NER (local chapter-Shillong), Prof Veena Tandon said, while addressing a one-day national seminar on the theme ‘Mathematics: The need of the hour’ for school and college level to celebrate the National Year of Mathematics 2012 and to commemorate the 125th Birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan at Shillong College here on Friday.
