Mawkynrew Holy Cross Parish completes 25 years

 SHILLONG: The Holy Cross Parish, Mawkynrew on Sunday celebrated its silver jubilee celebration in its Parish ground which was well-attended by number of priests and religious sisters besides thousands of catholic faithful.

The programme was inaugurated by the blessing of the jubilee memorial arch and the Grotto of Our Lady of Good Health of Vailankanni by Rev. Archbishop Dominic Jala, SDB of Shillong.

Earlier, there was the lighting of the 25 lamps by the archbishop, priests, catechists and church leaders to mark the solemn occasion of the silver jubilee of the parish.

During the Holy Mass around 280 boys and girls received the Holy Communion for the first time in their life.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Bindo Lanong stressed on the contribution of the Church to the people of the area.

Holy Cross Parish, Mawkynrew was bifurcated from Jongksha Parish in 1984. Fr. K O Joseph along with Frs. Peter Chittayath and the present Parish Priest Arul J were instrumental in starting the mission.

Local MLA Remington Pyngrope extended his co-operation in the growth of the parish stating that he was fortunate to be a representative of a place where two parishes run by the Holy Cross Fathers are present.

At the end of the cultural programme there was the releasing of the Silver Jubilee souvenir by JA Lyngdoh.
