SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) along with Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association has demanded the Centre to provincialize the services of all government aided school teachers in the State.

A delegation of teachers met Union Human Resource Development Minister MM Palam Raju in the national capital recently to apprise him of their demand.

“The Union Minister has assured us of writing a letter to the state government to take necessary steps in this regard,” KJDSTA president ED Nongsiang said while addressing a press conference here on Monday.

“Raju also assured us that he would visit the state soon to take stock of the education scenario here,” he added.

While briefing on the need for their demand, the KJDSTA president said, “There are a confusing number of categories of schools (12,740) in the state and with the exception of Government schools, all teachers under the Government aided system face the problem of irregular payment of salaries.”

There are 37,675 teachers in the state.

The delegation also met state MPs Agatha Sangma and Vincent Pala during their visit to New Delhi and urged them to support their cause.
