Meghalaya martyr laid to rest

NONGSTOIN: Several relatives, friends, representatives of Mawkyrwat District Administration and Assam regiment personnel paid their last respects to Army Kitborlang Lyngkhoi who died on Sunday last in Jamu and Kashmir (Shiachen) while he was on duty to protect the Nation from enemies.

Kitborlang Lyngkhoi (25) died while he was performing his duty along with six other Army colleagues in Shiacen. After climbing more than a thousand meters of Shiacen hill, the ice collapsed and washed them away into a deep gorge.

Kitborlang completed his training from Assam Regiment Recruitment Training Centre Happy Valley and joined service in 2010 following which, he was posted in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jamu and Kashmir. The Church service which was conducted by the Presbyterian denomination was held at his residence at Nongbah Marshillong under South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat which is his home village, which was followed by the short speech of his life history by his family member. Condolence messages issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Mawkyrwat on behave of the state Government, the Assam regiment centre, Happy Valley and other were also read out during the service ceremony.

Later, his body was taken to school premises at Marshillong for laying of wreathe by the District Administration’s representative and Assam regiment personnel, which was followed by the guard of honour and gun salute by the Assam regiment personnel and then his body was taken to Marshillong Presbyterian cemetery for cremation.
