Agartala: To ensure free and fair polls, Pradesh Congress has submitted 8,000 specific complaints in respect to the photo electoral rolls before the Election Commission. Addressing a press conference held at Agartala Congress Bhavan here on Monday , Congress-MLA Subal Bhowmik blamed the CPM backed election machineries for not disposing of the forged or bogus voters from the rolls.

“The PCC don’t want President’s rule in the state. We want a free and fair election to be conducted on the basis of error-free electoral rolls. For this, the PCC has submitted the list of complaints to the Election Commission Bhowmik, who was part of the Congress delegation, said. The CPM backed election machineries did not show interest in entertaining complaints made by Congress on the basis of fake documents. The democracy will be at stake if electoral rolls are not prepared properly,” said Bhowmik.

Later, condemning the act of CPM led government, Bhowmik said that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar stated that it is not possible for releasing a 100% error-free voter list. Referring to CPM stalwart Sitaram Yechuri’s objection over complaints on white paper in respect to the electoral rolls, Bhowmik said the EC has made it clear that it would entertain complaint if anyone lodges through SMS.

He also added that the Commissioner had accepted the complaints and assured that they would surely accept if someone let them inform regarding such complaints even through SMS. After that, Bhowmik detailed that over 2 lakhs of voters enrolled in the voter list are non-voters, majority of whom are either dead, minors or Bangladeshi nationals.

The MLA even produced evidences of false Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificates (PRTC) in front of the media persons. Interestingly, the documents have the address of Sepahijala district with dates of 2006, 2007 or 2008.
