SHILLONG: The fun-filled Laban Youth Week organized by the Seng Samla Laban concluded with a musical evening at the Laban Sports Club premises here on Saturday.

The Youth Week, organized with an aim to bring together the youth of the area, witnessed many sports and musical events throughout.

Songs, dances and various traditional and cultural performances from members of the Seng Samla Laban and others ‘rocked the celebration’.

However, in a rare disappointment in the otherwise successful event, Indian Idol finalist from the city, Toshanbor Nongbet could not perform in the musical evening due to sore throat.

Addressing the gathering at the concluding function, Deputy Chief Minister, Bindo M Lanong said, “It is a noble initiative of the Seng Samla towards strengthening the society.”

“Initiative like these provides a platform to the young and talented to showcase their skills. It helps the young to explore and know what they are good at and perhaps may even pursue it as a career,” he said.

Lanong also said that the Laban Sports Club (LSC) has played a crucial role in uplifting football in the State. “I hope it continues to contribute in the field of sports,” he added.

Informing the gathering about the various initiative of the State Government in the field of sports, Lanong said, “Infrastructure plays an important role for sportsmen to deliver to the optimum and the state government is committed to provide it,” he said.

The president of Shillong Sports Association (SSA), KF Rangad who also spoke on the occasion lauded the initiative of the SSL and urged the youths to consider sports as a career.
