Liquor seized, ten arrested

SHILLONG: In one of its biggest drives against the illicit country liquor and Indian Manufactured Foreign Liquor(IMLF), the state police on the last two days of 2012 conducted raids in several parts of the city and seized 55,490 milliliters of IMFL and 130 litres of country liquor besides arresting 10 persons.

Police destroyed 30 litres of country liquor at Mawbah and Upper Shillong.

In a similar drive, the Cantonment police arrested three persons identified as Nima Tehu,Sonam Lama and Wamo Chimsu and seized 12510 ml of IMFL.

Only 1260 ml of IMFL could be recovered in Bishnupur area. In a separate drive, Rynjah police arrested three persons — Mery Nongrum, Harka Bahadur Sunar, and Violin Nongrum and recovered 5220 ml of IMFL 20 litres of country liquor. Another major seizure of 25125 ml of IMFL was made in Laban and two persons -Poly Marak and Martin Sangma were arrested. The police also recovered 60 litres of illicit country liquor and 4120 ml of IMFL in Polo Bazar.

The police also managed to seize 7255 ml of IMFL during its raid at AC lane and arrested D Dolma and Sonam Lama, owners of two restaurants.

The police also recovered 20 litres of Khasi local made liquor from one abandoned place near Khliehshnong play ground in Sohra. The police official also warned that the drive against illicit liquor will continue in the city and accordingly seizures and arrests would be made.
