Aizawl: Mizoram will soon have a horticulture college within this year.
State agriculture/horticulture minister H Liansailova told reporters here on Monday that Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has taken steps so that works could be commenced by July next. He said the horticulture college would be set up within the campus of college of veterinary science and animal husbandry, Central Agriculture University, at Selesih, on the northern fringes of Aizawl.
Liansailova said at the request of the chief minister, Union Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar had assured to send a team during the first half of this month to expedite the process of setting up the horticulture college.
In recognition of Mizoram’s laudable performance in agriculture, the central government has selected the hilly state for the Krishi Karman Award 2011-12.
Pointing out that Mizoram has registered GSDP growth rate at 11 per cent during the 11th Plan period against the national growth rate of 7.8 per cent, and attributed this to the state government’s flagship project New Land Use Policy. (UNI)
