SHILLONG: In an embarrassing moment for the newly floated National People’s Party (NPP), a delegation of the Election Commission of India (ECI) was informed that an unrecognized party has been invited for discussions.

The NPP was invited for the one-on-one meetings with various political parties here on Monday.

However, the ECI officials played down the matter. “Don’t create unnecessary embarrassment,” said an ECI official.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, NPP president WR Kharlukhi admitted that his party was an unrecognized one.

“We will have to submit a list of candidates after three days of announcement of election dates to the Election Commission for retaining our party symbol,” he said.
