SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep National People Front (HNPF) on Tuesday presented a different version of the incident at the Meghalaya Cement Limited (Topcem Cements) on Monday evening stating that the Home guards on duty that day were actually the real victims and not what was reported otherwise.

Earlier it was reported that four officials of the Meghalaya Cement Limited (Topcem Cements) on Monday evening including its assistant general manager human resources, R Banerjee, were assaulted after home guard personnel, deployed as security guard in the cement company attacked the control room and administrative block of the plant on Monday evening.

“The statement issued by senior official SK Rai is false and baseless as they were the one who intended to harm the home guards on duty that night while lashing out unkind words to them,” HNPF president Ronnie Rani said.

According to him, one of the cement plant’s official was out after work when he started using unkind words on one of the home guard personal on duty and dragged him to a Bolero with an attempt to harm him. “Luckily, he managed to escape and informed the other guards and that is when the trouble erupted,” Rani said.

The HNPF president visited the four injured home guards admitted at the hospital on Tuesday and later threatened to take action if action is not taken against the erring officials.
