NONGSTOIN: With a view to promote the traditional culture and aesthetics of the region, the South West Khasi Hills District Arts and Culture Society, supported by the Directorate of Arts and Culture, will host the first-ever ‘Iong Lajong Festival’ at Maharam Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat on January 18.
The gala event will commence with a half marathon with the election slogans ‘Run for Democracy’ and ‘Come and Vote’.
In the evening, a cultural programme will showcase a display of ethnic apparels with the indigenous and fashion sequences designed by Arif Mukhim and a special ‘Colours of the North East’ designed by Yana Ngoba. There will be performances by top local bands – Wild Tears, Cadenza and Scatter – traditional songs, folk dance of the Khasis, Garos and the Hajongs and the unique ‘dance of a hundred warriors’.
There will also be comedies and skits performances by Sanriti Nongsiej, a top-ten finalist of Meghalaya Dancing Star and a rendition of modern Khasi songs by Rana Kharkongor.
