Bus falls into gorge, one killed

NONGTOIN: At about 6 AM on Thursday, a bus carrying 20 passengers on its way from Wahkaji to Nongstoin skidded off the road and fell into a gorge killing one and injuring several others.

Eye-witnesses said that the bus bearing registration no ML 10-1132 with 20 passengers had left the Wahkaji bus station at 6 AM. Barely after 5 minutes, the bus skidded off the road. The deceased, Barisha Iawren (14) of Mawduh village died on the spot. Several others were injured and were taken to Civil Hospital Nongstoin. Out of the 13 injured, 3 of them are said to be in a critical condition.

They are Teinambha Umiap (16) of Nongryngkew A, Jenstar Thongni (26) and Dablin Iawren (27) of Mawduh village. All the passengers were on their way to Nongstoin, as Nongstoin had its market day on Thursday. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained but survivors say that it was the negligence of the bus driver.
