SHILLONG: The State Government has handed over a building to the Regional Passport Office, Guwahati, for setting up of a full-fledged passport office in the State.

Informing this here on Thursday, Principal Secretary (Home) Passports, Hector Marwein, said, “We handed over the building to them way back in October.”

It was informed that the Government has handed over the old office of the Directorate of Sports at Lower Lachumiere after necessary face-lift.

“Now its upto the Regional Passport Office to install the required machineries and appoint officers for the passport office,” Marwein said, adding that it would be a full-fledged passport office as all paper works will be done here. However, the same would have to be sent to the Regional Passport Officer in Guwahati for signature.

The upcoming passport office in Shillong is expected to reduce the burden of passport applicants from the State who have to travel to Guwahati for obtaining their passports.
