SHILLONG: UDP working president Bindo Mathew Lanong on Thursday exuded confidence that the current trend across the country where regional parties are coming to power in various states would be reciprocated in Meghalaya also.

Lanong was hopeful that majority of the people would vote for the regional forces this time.

According to Lanong, this emerging trend of regional parties being voted to power is not restricted to one particular state.

“We have seen how people have reposed their faith in the regional forces in states like Bihar, West Bengal, Punjab, Sikkim and Tamil Nadu. This is a clear indication that people are unhappy with the misrule of many of the national parties.

“I am pretty sure that the non-tribal voters like the Bengalis, Punjabis, Biharis and others would do the same thing here like they have done in their own respective states,” Lanong added.

Stating that the people of the State have allowed the Congress to continue their misrule in the State for the past so many years, Lanong said, “I would strongly appeal to the people to allow the regional parties to lead the State in the next five years.”
