Editor,
The arbitrary transfer of Superintendent of Police of Ri- Bhoi Dist. as reported in your Daily on lOthe Jan 2013 is very disturbing. However a few facts need to be ascertained before we jump to conclusions. The first question that comes to mind is did the Governor’s ADC go to the Police Station to lodge his complaint just as any citizen would have to? If yes, then, indeed the District Police should have traced the offending driver of the runaway truck. However if not, then it may be assumed that the ADC has complained directly to the Governor and in doing so has abused his official position. If that be the case I appeal to the NGOs of the State to take up the matter with the Government of India and Government of Meghalaya as he has clearly violated his service conditions and disciplinary proceedings should be initiated against him. The local media should also investigate the matter and highlight the same with the mainstream media if need be.
The Honorable Governor on his part being a retired policeman himself should not have interfered in the functioning of the District Police and if the reports are true then he is also as guilty of giving favorable treatment and thus has abused his official position. On behalf of the citizens of Meghalaya, I am grateful to the media who have brought to our knowledge this issue and hope that the erring officials are brought to book.
Yours etc.

Why the delay in appointments?

Editor,
I would like to bring to the notice of the concerned authority that exams for jobs mentioned in the Advertisement of the District Selection Committee vide Letter No.DSC/WGH/1/93/151. Dated 7th Sept. 2010, have not yet been conducted while the results for those already conducted i.e., for the post of Sectional Assistant (S.A) are being inordinately delayed. This obviously raises concerns that there is an anomaly in the functioning of the DSC of West Garo Hills. The former Secretary, Mr K Marak has already conducted and declared the number of posts in the same advertisement and there was no complaint of any unfair means, but ever since the new Secretary Mr C N Sangma took over the Committee has now stopped functioning. This raises speculations that the members of the DSC are trying to push in their own relatives or those who offer them bribes.
Whereas the MPSC has conducted the written exams for the post of LDA. for about 30,000 (thirty thousand) candidates on 20th October, 2012 and the result for the same has been declared within 1 (one) month it is unfortunate that the DSC, West Garo Hills has conducted a written exam for the post of Sectional Assistant (S.A) on 21st January 2012 and the viva voce only on 20th  & 21st September, 2012 for 55 candidates only and the result is kept in abeyance till today for reasons best known to the Secretary and the Chairman of the DSC West Garo Hills.
Therefore, we request all the members of the present DSC, to clarify as to why the results of the exams for the post of Sectional Assistant (S.A.) have not been declared till date.
Yours etc,
Salgra Sangma,
Tura
