NONGSTOIN: In order to make the candidates and the representatives of the political parties aware about various guidelines and directives of the Election Commission of India with regard to the general election to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to be held on the February 23, the District Election Officer, South West Khasi Hills District, A Mawlong, IAS along with the Additional Deputy Commissioner i/c of Election KL Nongbri, the Election Officers and the Master Trainers conducted the training on Monday at Maharam Government Secondary School Auditorium, Mawkyrwat.
The Training which included highlighting on nomination papers, election expenditures, paid news, printing of pamphlets posters etc… Model code of conduct and various other election related matters were attended by the Candidates and the representatives of all political parties of both 35 – Ranikor (ST) Assembly Constituency and 36 – Mawkyrwat (ST) Assembly Constituency.
While launching the National Voters Day which will be celebrated on the January 25, Mawlong said that this year, the celebration is assumed important as it is election year. He also stated that the intension of the Election Commission to celebrate the National Voters Day every year is to allow every individual who has attained the age of 18 years to vote so that a true democracy would prevail.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner i/c of Election, KL Nongbri, stated that celebration of will include a public rally-half marathon with a slogan run for Democracy and come and vote, the enrollment in the electoral roll which is part of SVEEP programmes will also conclude on that day. The meeting was presided over by the Additional Deputy Commissioner i/c of personnel and training, MS Sangma.
