SHILLONG: The HSPDP manifesto which was released by its party president Hoping Stone Lyngdoh on Friday has nothing new to offer.
The party is laying emphasis on the same old issues like the creation of a separate Khasi-Jaintia State and the early settlement of the inter-State boundary dispute with Assam.
In the manifesto, the party has also reiterated its opposition to the intention of the Union Government in mining of uranium in the State.
“The mining of the uranium would have a huge negative impact on the environment and its surrounding,” the party said while also stating that it would also have a serious health hazard which would threat to the local people who are close to the sites where there are uranium deposits.
The party also laid emphasis on the need to protect the land and its forest resources from various exploitations by strictly implementing the various laws and Act.
Meanwhile, the party also favoured the early implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to fight against the problem in illegal immigrants even as suggesting on the need to further strengthen the Land Transfer Act.
The party also seeksthe abolition of the Joint Cadre with Assam.
On the education sector, the party has stressed on the need to set up various vocational schools and training centres to increase the employability skills of the local youth.
However, the party said that they would continue with their demand to include the Khasi language in the Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution even as to redefine the scheduled tribe list in the State in accordance with the Fifth Schedule.
While stressing on the need to create better health care infrastructures and facilities in the rural areas, the party also suggested the need to support the local traditional medicine practitioners.
