National Voters’ Day celebrated across the state

TURA: Together with the rest of the country eligible voters at Tura took the Voter’s pledge on Friday at an elaborate function organized by the Deputy Commissioner (Election) commemorating the National Voter’s Day at the Deputy Commissioner’s Park near here. The theme of the celebration was ‘come to vote’.

Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest, MBOSE Executive Chairman EP Kharbhih commended the West Garo Hills District Administration for its endeavor in encouraging the youth to participate in the electoral process through various programmes under the Systematic Voters Education and Enrollment Program (SVEEP).

As part of the programme newly registered voters were also felicitated. Cambel B Sangma, a senior citizen was felicitated for being the oldest participant of the SVEEP Marathon which was organized as an effort to boost enrollment and participation in the electoral process. Prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions organized by the district administration as part of SVEEP.

Along with the rest of the State, the National Voter’s Day was also observed at Mawkyrwat on Friday. A large number of people including officials and school children participated in the meeting held at Maharam Government Secondary School auditorium.

While delivering the introductory speech, the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat A Mawlong said that in line with the National Voter’s Day celebration his office has many a time conducted awareness among the public in rural areas about the importance of exercising one’s adult franchise. The Meeting was presided over by the Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge Election, Mawkyrwat K.L.Nongbri.
