New Friends Union win league title

SHILLONG: New Friends Union (NFU) Cricket Club have defeated United XI Cricket Club by 6 wickets to win the Super Division Shillong Cricket League 2012.

In the final played at the Cricket Ground, Polo Shillong, United XI CC won the toss and elected to bat.

Starting shakily, United XI lost 3 top order batsmen for 10 runs. At one time they were reeling at 59 for 5 in 24 overs. A steady partnership between wicketkeeper-batsman Rohit Thapa ( 63 n.o. of 98) and Jefferson Wahlang (29 of 45) helped United XI pile up 178 for 6 in allotted 40 overs.

Rohit Thapa carried his bat through the innings.

Raj Biswa took 3 for 17 of 8 overs.

In reply NFU lost two quick wickets for 20 runs before inform batsman Raj Biswa (80 of 77) and Niranjan Deka (46 no of 98) took the match away from United XI by their century partnership.

Jason Lamare was the only successful bowler claiming 2 for 36 runs.

The elegant batting of Raj Biswa won him the Man of the Match and Man of the Tournament award.

The prizes were distributed by JR Marak , Deputy Director, Sports and C.Dunai, Assistant Director, Sports among others.
