Filing of nominations to begin tomorrow

 SHILLONG: The State is gearing up for the ensuing Assembly election with the filing of nomination papers scheduled to begin from January 30.

Expressing satisfaction over the election preparedness in the State, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Prashant Naik on Monday said things are looking smooth and the electoral officers are fully prepared February 23 election.

“We would be issuing a notification on Wednesday, which is also the first day of filing of the nomination papers,” Naik said.

“The last date of filing of the nomination is February 6 while the scrutiny of the nomination papers would be done on February 7,” he said adding that the last date for withdrawal of nominations papers is February 9.

Naik also informed that the 13 election observers for the State would start arriving from Tuesday onwards.

The counting of votes will be held on February 28.

The term of the present Assembly ends on March 10.
