Flying squads to keep watch over cash distribution

TURA: The District Election Officer, West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi, has informed the general public that in view of the Model Code of Conduct during elections, distribution of cash, liquor, or any other items for gratification of voters is considered bribery and that both giving and taking bribe is a punishable offence with imprisonment up to one year with fine.

He informed that flying squads and video surveillance teams have been formed and detailed for each Assembly constituency to keep watch over distribution of cash, liquor and other items in the constituencies during the election.

Bakshi also informed that anybody carrying cash amounting to Rs 50,000 and above, in any constituency during election, should produce either a PAN card or other related documents to show the source and end use of such cash in order to avoid seizure by the flying squads.
