NPP candidate claims support of over 100 leaders

 SHILLONG: National People’s Party (NPP) candidate from Ranikor constituency, Cornileous Nongbri, on Thursday claimed that he has gathered more strength in his campaign following the extension of support by leaders of different political parties including the Congress, Mahila Congress, UDP and HSPDP from as many as 49 polling station with the strength of 218 villages.

Nongbri claimed that over hundred leaders from different parties agreed to extend their support to him during a recent meeting.

The NPP candidate claimed that the leaders of political parties who have supported him hail from Nongkulang, Wahkaji, Nongtnger, Nongummer, Nongtynniaw, Peiñskei, Nongriniang, Umsaw, Mawhiangrnga, Lawsiej, Phlangdiloiñ, Pyndensynnia, Langpa, New Phanwar, Dom Shken, Nongthymmai, Mawpud, Trongpleng, Raibah, Kenbah, Sarin, Rangthong, Phodjaud, Nongnah, Mawthynrew, Mawlyngngad, Mawmihrang, Eitsiar, Kynsienphlang, Rangjadong, Ngunraw and Keniong villages, all under Ranikor constituency.

Nongbri, who left his job as Development Officer of Meghalaya Co-operative Bank Ltd, stated that he had decided to join politics and contest the election owing to the backwardness of the constituency in terms of infrastructure development.

“Development in the area has been stagnant and we need change. For this we need new leaders and representatives and a chance should be given to a new party to work for the betterment of the people of the area,” Nongbri said.

The NNP candidate will be contesting against Congress nominee and former Assembly Speaker Martin M Danggo, among other candidates.
