TURA: As many as forty-five candidates in the five districts of Garo Hills filed their nomination papers to contest the February 23rd assembly elections on Monday, prominent among whom were former Chief Minister Salseng C Marak, Congress heavyweight and former minister Deborah C Marak, sitting Congress Minister Frankenstein W Momin and opposition candidate and sitting MLA Marcuise Marak from Williamnagar.
The former Congress Chief Minister, Salseng C Marak along with the Congress candidates for Mendipather and Bajengdoba filed their nomination before Returning Officer W Kyllap at Resubelpara on Monday. Apart from Salseng Marak (INC) Congress candidates Frankenstein W Momin of Mendipather and Adolf Lu Hitler Marak of Bajengdoba also filed their nominations.
Deborah C Marak of the Congress and Marcuise N Marak of the NPP filed their nominations before the Returning Officer for 43-Williamnagar, V K Mantri, at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in East Garo Hills on Monday morning.
Another candidate from Willimnagar, Jonathan Sangma also filed his papers to contest from the same constituency.
In West Garo Hills district there were eleven candidates who filed nominations spanning several constituencies while under Dadenggre civil-subdivision there were six nominations.
Jingjang M Marak (Ind) and sitting MDC Dipul Marak of the NPP filed their nomination for Rangsakona constituency, while in Dalu constituency former MDC and Congress candidate Kenethson R Sangma and Independent candidate Kurosh M Marak filed their nomination papers at Tura.
There were three candidates who field their nomination papers for Gambegre constituency, namely Balen A Sangma of the NPP, and Independent candidates Prewil Ch Marak and Rakseng R Marak.
There were two candidates for Rajabala who filed their papers, notably Dr Azad Zaman (Ind) and Islam Haq Choudhury of the NCP.
In Phulbari constituency, NPP’s Sader Hussain and Independent Mark Goera B Marak were the only two candidates to file their nomination. Under Dadenggre civil sub-division which oversees three assembly constituencies there were six candidates who filed their nomination.
Pillarson G Momin of the BJP and Janatan Rabha of the NCP filed their nomination to contest from 44-Raksamgre constituency.
For 45-Tikrikilla constituency the candidates who field their nomination papers were Shaamsher Nongrum (Ind), Serazul H Kharkongor (Ind), Michael T Sangma (Ind) and Mrinal Marak of the NCP.
There were no nominations filed for Dadenggre assembly segment.
In South Garo Hills district, Panseng R marak (NCP, Milam M Sangma (NPP) and Sirgan A sangma (Independent) filed their nomination papers for 60-Baghmara constituency.
In 58-Rongara-Siju constituency, sitting MLA and NPP candidate Satto R Marak, Rakkam A Sangma (Insdependent) and Mahamsin M Sangma (Independent) filed their nomination papers.
In 59-Chokpot- NPP candidate and sitting MLA of Kherapara Phillipole D marak filed his nomination papers.
Under South West Garo Hills district lady candidate Mafiara T Sangma of the NCP filed her papers for 54-Mahendraganj constituency while Drembar Ch Marak (Ind) filed his nomination for 55-Salmanpara.
