NONGPOH: Independent candidate from Nongpoh constituency, Badhok Nongmalieh, on Tuesday appealed to the people to vote for him for change and development in the constituency.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, Nongmalieh shared his ‘vision and mission’ for Nongpoh, saying that he had taken the decision of entering the fray after realizing that he could address and ventilate the grievances and the problems of the people only by becoming an MLA.

Nongmalieh revealed that he had humble beginnings and had started earning his livelihood by running an auto rickshaw which he had purchased on loan from the PMRY scheme in 1993 and had repaid the amount in 6 months. He then ventured into construction works as a supplier.

On his decision to contest as an Independent, Nongmalieh said he did not want to be governed by the whims and fancies of the party higher up which will hinder his functioning as MLA.

Asked on his thrust area if elected as MLA, Nongmalieh said his topmost priority would be to revive the age-old agricultural practices in the constituency and encourage the farmers to go for organic farming.

He added that he would ensure the setting up of a proper agricultural policy to address the grievances and problems of the farmers, besides setting up of regulated markets in the constituency.

Nongmalieh said that animal husbandry such as piggery, poultry farming and fishery would be encouraged.

The Independent candidate also mentioned that improvement of road connectivity, setting up of a career counseling cum coaching centre in Nongpoh, improvement of the education scenario and better health facilities for people would also get his priority.

He also stated that he would try to ensure regular power supply to the people of the constituency in particular and the district in general.
