Campaigning starts gaining momentum

SHILLONG: As the date of polling for Assembly elections gets closer in Meghalaya, the political activities have started to gain momentum.

With the submission of nominations coming to an end, candidates of both ruling coalition and opposition has started addressing rallies and public gathering and are leaving no stone unturned to capture the voters.

Most of the candidates have finished their door-to-door campaign and now they are going for rallies and public meetings to woo the voters. Flags of different political parties are seen coming up in several private buildings.

Candidates are now organizing rallies and even the supporters of different parties are now seen chanting slogans in streets in support of their respective candidates and political parties.

Chief Electoral Officer P Naik while speaking to The Shillong Times said that it is mandatory for any candidate to obtain permission for holding any rally or public meeting.

The Election Commission of India has also appointed general observers to keep a tab on the activities of the candidates. The Chief Electoral Officer also said that the candidates should not indulge in any kind of hate speech.
