Cellular phone in Polling Stations not permitted

JOWAI: The District Election Officer of West Jaintia Hills District has informed that the Election Commissioner of India vide its letter no.464/MEG/2008,dated 30.1.2008 has issued an instruction/ directions in the matter pertaining Prevention of use of Cellular Phone inside Polling stations.

In this regard, the DEO has banned the use of cellular phones for all personnel. He however informed that the Presiding Officers, Commission’s Observer, Sector Officers, Micro Static Observers or other Officers specially authorized by the Returning Officer are permitted to carry a cellular phone inside the polling station for emergency official use only.
