Observer briefs political parties on poll code

NONGSTOIN: The Election General Observer for South West Khasi Hills District, Manoj Jain IAS, together with the Police Observer Suman Manjari, IPS met the contesting candidates and representatives of different political parties of 35-Ranikor(ST) and 36-Mawkyrwat (ST) Assembly Constituencies on Saturday at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Mawkyrwat in the presence of the District Election Officer, Mawkyrwat , A.Mawlong IAS, the Returning Officer for 36- Mawkyrwat (ST) AC, K L Nongbri, MCS and the Returning Officer for 35-Ranikor (ST) AC, M S Sangma, MCS to discuss about various issues pertaining to MLA election to be held on February 23.

Presiding over the meeting, the District Election Officer, Mawkyrwat A Mawlong IAS informed that the election officials have had frequent meetings with representatives of different political parties in the District and had clearly briefed them about the rules and directives of the Election Commission of India pertaining to conducting free and fair election in the State.

The Election General Observer, Manoj Jain drew the attention of the contesting candidates and representatives of political parties present in the meeting that they should adhere to the model code of conduct and other directives of the Election Commission of India for the free and fair election.

Later, the Deputy District Election Officer, K L Nongbri MCS who is also the Returning Officer highlighted the contesting candidates and representatives of political parties about various issues for the free and fair election which included the enforcement of MCC, defacement, critical polling stations and randomization of Electronic Voting Machines.

DEO notifies rates: The District Election Officer, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat, A Mawlong IAS has notified the rates of various items for the purpose of calculation of Election Expenditure of the candidates.
