2 GNLA rebels arrested after gunfight in West Garo Hills

SHILLONG: Police arrested two GNLA cadres including the deputy area commander of West Garo Hills and recovered arms and ammunition on late Saturday night after an operation in West Garo Hills.

According to police, the deputy area commander of GNLA, Brightwell Arengh alias Chiga (29), and Napsen ch Marak (30) were arrested while the area commander escaped after a brief exchange of fire between the militants and the security forces at Chigitchakgre area at around 11:45 pm on Saturday.

Police recovered one AK-47 rifle, 55 rounds of live ammunition and communication equipments among others from the hide out of the militants.
