SHILLONG: The 58 Gorkha Training Centre (58 GTC) won the coveted ‘101 Area Volleyball Championship 2013-14’ in Happy Valley recently.
In the keenly contested best of five sets final match, 58 GTC players outplayed a tough ARC team, winning the match 3-0.
The championship, which is held every year, commenced on February 4 at Gaje Ghale Ground, Happy Valley near here. The aim of this championship is to develop spirit-de-corps and camaraderie amongst the five major army establishments of this region and is played as per the rules framed by ‘Federation Internationale de Volley-ball’ (FIVB) and Volleyball Federation of India.
The chief guest on the occasion, General Officer Commanding 101 Area, Lt Gen RS Panwar, SM, VSM gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up team.
The Championship Trophy was awarded to 58 Gorkha Training Centre Team.
