Agartala: Confusion looms large over opening up Indo-Bangladesh border along Akhaura on Feb 21 last when a few thousands of Bangladeshi nationals entered into Agartala crossing zero line.
Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal said here on Sunday neither election commission nor district administration had given any direction to open the international border but a large number of Bangladeshi entered into the city.
He said that state cultural department had sought permission for organizing cultural program at no mans’ land where artists, poets and intellectuals from both the countries were supposed to be assembled. ‘With the approval of Election Commission the department was allowed to hold the program like previous years but no foreigners were allowed to enter inside India,’ Mr Jindal said.
He also stated that election commission or district magistrate or BSF authority had not issued any permission to anyone to get enter into India but nobody could clarify how they came inside.
The incident has been rocking the state for past few days following illegal entry of Bangladeshi in India and assembled in front strong rooms where polled EVMs of 14 constituencies were kept inside.
Moreover, the movement of illegal Bangladeshis was through police headquarters and official residents of ministers and VIPs.
Meanwhile, BSF sources however, stated that BSF authorities at Akhaura had been asked by district administration to open up the border and accordingly it was opened and thousands of Bangladeshi entered inside without any check.
Finally, MTF and police personnel were pressed into action to push them back. (UNI)
