Eight crorepatis among newly elected members of Assembly

 Agartala: Of the total 60 newly elected members of Tripura Legislative Assembly, eight are crorepatis whereas in 2008 only three MLAs were crorepatis, according to an analysis by Tripura Election Watch (TEW).

While the average asset per MLA in the Assembly was Rs. 53.61 lakhs, it stood Rs. 29.98 lakh in 2008 Assembly elections.

Among major parties, the average asset per MLA for CPI (M) is Rs. 27.59 lakhs and for INC it stood Rs. 1.83 crores.

In 2008 the average asset per MLA for CPI (M) was Rs. 14.86 Lakhs and for INC it was Rs. 1.052 crores.

The top three MLAs with highest assets include Dilip Sarkar (INC) with Rs. 4.58 crores, Pranajit Singha Roy (INC) with assets worth Rs. 4.03 crores and Biswabandhu Sen (INC) with assets worth Rs 2.25 crores.

From CPI (M), the MLA with highest assets is Jitendra Choudhari (RD Minister) with assets of Rs 1.55 crores.

A total of 11 MLAs out of 60 analyzed have declared assets less than Rs. 10 lakhs.

According to the TEW analysis, Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl of INC who won the election from Karamchara constituency has declared the lowest assets of Rs 6000 followed by CPM’s Niranjoy Tripura with assets worth Rs 88,000 and Priyamani Debbarma of CPI(M) with assets worth Rs 1.10 lakh.

A total of nine elected member of the Assembly out of 60 have declared liabilities of Rs. 10 lakhs or above.

The top three MLAs with highest declared liabilities are RD Minister Jitendra Chaudhury whose declared liabilities stands at Rs. 28.24 lakh followed by Rajendra Reang of CPI(M) with liabilities of Rs 20.96 lakhs and Bijoy Lakshmi Singha of CPI(M) with liabilities worth Rs 15.03 lakhs.

From INC side, Birajit Sinha who won the election from Kailshahar constituency, has highest liabilities- Rs 14.56 lakh.

As many as 29 out of all 60 (48%) MLAs in Tripura have not declared their PAN details.

In 2008, 51 MLAs (85% of 60 analyzed) had not declared their PAN details.

The top three elected member of Assembly with the highest income include Pranajit Singha Roy (INC) with total income of Rs. 30.38 Lakh and he is followed by Birajit Sinha with total income of Rs 7.69 lakhs and Ratan Lal Nath (INC) with total income of Rs 7.66 lakhs. From CPI (M) side, the MLA having highest income is Bijita Nath with Rs 2.63 lakh.

Of the total members, six have declared criminal cases pending against themselves and all of them are from INC.
