SHILLONG: The under construction Crowborough Hotel at Khyndailad, conceptualized way back in the 1980s, is finally expected to be commissioned within August this year, Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) chairman Ronnie V Lyngdoh informed on Thursday.
“Work is going on now and we are happy with the progress,” Lyngdoh told The Shillong Times here.
The MTDC chairman also stated that the project was progressing smoothly without any problems and construction would be completed within the allotted time.
Earlier, the lessee – Lessly Shylla – had sought the help of an international firm – Novotel – to complete the construction of the hotel which has been abnormally delayed.
The lessee roped in the international firm after it was found that the rooms of the proposed hotel were quite small and the design was outdated.
The hotel occupying a floor area of 28,869 sq. ft. had been leased out to Shylla – a coal trader from Jaintia Hills – on May 28, 2008 for a period of 33 years.
As per the lease agreement signed between the MTDC and Shylla, the private developer was to complete the project within one year. But the party defaulted, following which extension was given – first till November 2010 and then up to November 2011. The latest deadline has been set as August 2013.
The multi-star hotel will have eight economy rooms, 58 standard rooms, 30 deluxe rooms, five suites, 100-seater coffee shop, 80-seater specialty (Indian / Multi-cuisine) restaurant, 50-seater bar, 35-seater lounge, disco, banquet hall, convention facilities with state-of-the-art seating and projection facilities, smaller meeting and committee rooms, guest amenities like beauty parlour, health club with fully equipped gym, steam, sauna and massage facilities, besides other amenities.
