SHILLONG: The entire Jaintia Hills has also plunged into darkness as electricity went off at around 7 PM on Saturday.

Both districts of East and West Jaintia Hills were affected after the electricity went off in the evening.

Power failure has added to the worries of the students appearing for their State, Central boards and University examinations.

Deputy Chief Minister Prof RC Laloo, who represents Jowai Assembly constituency, in his election campaign had assured the people that once elected, he would take steps to provide regular supply of power in Jowai.

Recently, a collapse of the power distribution system to the Garo Hills from Shillong shortly after 7:30 PM on Thursday night had cast a spell of darkness in the entire region, severely affecting the students preparing for their examinations. Power was restored in Garo Hills only on Friday afternoon.

When contacted, new Power Minister Clement Marak said that a Motion on power related issues would be moved in the Assembly and he will speak and talk in details on the same in the House.
