JOWAI: Consumers in Jaintia Hills seem aware of their rights as the Jaintia Hills Consumer District Forum has recorded the registration of about 47 cases till March, 2013.
Addressing the gathering during the function to observe the World Consumer Day, West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner and also President of the Jaintia Hills Consumer District Forum, Peter S Dkhar said if consumers were aware of their rights and the sellers or the producers of their responsibility none could be deprived of their rights and therefore a mutual consent between the consumers and the producers or sellers is needed to protect the rights of the consumers.
“Any deprived consumer can lodge their grievance in plain paper and cases can be settled in one sitting or within three months without being dragged into the legal tangle”, Dkhar said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, SS Syiemlieh chairing the function reminded that any problems encountered by the consumers with regards to goods and services have the right to redress their problems to the District Consumer Forum, which is a redressal body in order to
