Mixed day for police in cricket tourney

SHILLONG: MLP defeated Pinewood by six wickets, but the 6th Battalion lost to Purple Rain by two wickets in the last quarterfinal matches of the Inter Office cum Corporate T-20 Cricket Tournament 2013, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, at Polo Grounds on Tuesday.

In the first quarterfinal, Pinewood won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that went against them as they were all out for just 65 runs, made in 17.4 overs.

Gopal Sunar top-scored with 17 runs, while Rikseng Sangma shone with the ball, claiming four wickets for 12 runs.

In reply, MLP scored 69-4 in 10.4 overs. Wallambok Nongkhlaw scored 21 while Mohan Thapa took 2-22.

In the second quarterfinal, 6th Battalion won the toss and elected to bat.

They put up a total of 118- 9 in their 20 overs, with Prakash Uniyal scoring 24 while Andrew Ropmay bagged two wickets for 20 runs.

In reply, Purple Rain won with just 10 balls to spare as they made 119-8 in 18.2 overs.

Rajib Rai scored 25 runs while Sameer John took two wickets for 17 runs.
