No official notification for Khasi Hills elephant reserve
SHILLONG: While denying that the State Government had issued an official notification to set up an elephant reserve in Ri-Lyngngam Area, Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong said that only a public notice was issued for the same. Tynsong was replying to a question posed by HSPDP legislator Witting Mawsor who said that the government had issued an official notification for setting up of an elephant reserve at Ri-Lyngngam. Meanwhile, replying to a supplementary question raised by NPP legislator James Sangma during the Question Hour in the Asembly on Friday, Tynsong informed that out of the total 1232 elephants in the State, Khasi Hills has only 286. Tynsong added that the public notice was issued taking note of the lesser number of elephants in Khasi Hills. Earlier, raising a question, Mawsor, brought to the notice of the Minister that the notice was issued on July 11, 2012. Border Areas Scholarship
While replying to a question raised by UDP legislator Dr Donkupar Roy, Tynsong who is also the Minister of Border Area Development informed that the Government is currently examining the proposal for increasing the border areas scholarship.
Suspension Bridges
In reply to another question raised by Dr Roy, Tynsong informed that there is only one footbridge at Tharia village which collapsed within two years after it was constructed. “At present, the proposal for reconstruction of the bridge at a new site is being examined,” Tynsong said.
Cadastral survey
SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Revenue and Disaster Management, Prof RC Laloo on Friday assured that the department would try its level best to complete the cadastral survey. Earlier, UDP legislator Dr Donkupar Roy questioned the Government over the delay in completion of the cadastral survey of the villages in and around Shella. According to Dr Roy, the cadastral survey which was started three years back is stalled at the moment. Replying to the query during the Question Hour in the Assembly, Prof Laloo said that the government is facing difficulty in completing the survey due to opposition from the villagers. However, Dr Roy questioned the claim of the Deputy Chief Minister stating that the villagers wanted the cadastral survey to be carried out on their respective lands. Appreciating the UDP legislator for taking personal initiative on the cadastral survey, Prof Laloo assured that the department would do all it can to see that the survey is completed at the earliest.
C&RD schemes being implemented in Sohra
SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has informed that all the schemes of the Community and Rural Development (C&RD) department except for the MGNREGS are being implemented in all the 10 Sohra Census towns. “It is misleading to say that all the schemes of the C&RD department are not being implemented in these towns,” Lyngdoh said while replying to a supplementary question raised by UDP legislator Titos Chyne during the Question Hour in the Assembly on Friday. Earlier, while replying to the question raised by UDP legislator Dr Donkupar Roy, Lyngdoh said that the programmes and schemes implemented in Sohra were withdrawn. She also informed that formal local bodies like the town committees constituted by the District Councils would take over the responsibilities of the assets which had been created.
