Shillong Chamber Choir had taken India by storm after winning a TV reality show some time ago. That storm intensified this month, blowing across the country’s western coast. On March 1, SCC performed in Mumbai with tabla wizard Ustad Zakir Hussain for an organization called The Foundation headed by actor and social activist Rahul Bose. Two days later, choir members helmed by Neil Nongkynrih performed for the Terry Fox Committee in aid of Tata Memorial Cancer Institute, also in Mumbai. And on March 16, team SCC flew to Kerala for the celebration of Malayala Manorama publishing group completing 125 years. President Pranab Mukherjee attended the show, as did Union IT and communications minister Kapil Sibal, Karnataka governor HR Bharadwaj, Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy and others. According to Jessica Shaw Lyngdoh, SCC members would be based out of Mumbai for the rest of the month to work on several projects including studio recordings, TV and live shows.
