SHILLONG: NCP leader Robert Kharshiing on Tuesday said that he will wait for the reports from Garo Hills regarding the functioning of the Tura Fast Track Court (FTC) before withdrawing his PIL filed in the Supreme Court on the Williamnagar gang-rape case recently.
“I have to get the assurance from the government on whether they will activate the Tura FTC in spirit or not and if the government is serious enough in solving this case, then I will withdraw the PIL but as of now I am awaiting reports from Garo Hills,” Kharshiing said.
The NCP leader also expressed his appreciation of the statement made by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi on the development of the case wherein he had stated that the hearings on the case will be conducted on alternate days.
Kharshiing, however, expressed confusion over reports received from NGOs in Garo Hills on the sudden shifting of the FTC from Tura to Williamnagar. “If this report is true then this will create problems for the family concerned,” he added.
Brushing aside these claims, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday clarified that the reports were false even as he pointed out that the court is unlikely to be shifted from one district to another in one day.
The Tura FTC will begin the trial of the Williamnagar gang-rape case on Thursday.
