Meghalaya record 2 wins in NE Games hockey

SHILLONG: It was a day of double delight for Meghalaya when the state’s hockey players managed to defeat two teams from Tripura and Assam on Tuesday by 12 goals to one and 12 goals to nil, respectively, at the 27th North East Games 2013, held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal.

The first match, held at 10am against Tripura, saw Meghalaya score five goals in the first half, while Tripura scored one. Not satisfied with their hefty lead, Meghalaya added another seven goals in the second half.

In the second match, against Assam at 2pm, Meghalaya scored four goals in the first half and eight in the second while Assam failed to score at all.

In another match, Mizoram defeated Nagaland 10-0 but lost their second match to Manipur 9-2.

In the semifinals, Meghalaya, who topped Group B, will play Mizoram, who finished second in Group A.

Group A toppers Manipur will face Tripura, who finished second in Group B behind Meghalaya.
