SHILLONG: The three fast track courts in the State appear to be functioning at a snail’s pace if one goes by the official records on the number of pending cases in the three courts in the State.

There are as many as 188 pending cases with the Jowai fast track court whereas the number of pending cases is 45 in Tura and 17 in Shillong.

UDP member Dr Donkupar Roy raised the issue of the status of fast quart courts during Question Hour in the Assembly on Wednesday.

To a question, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Law, Rowell Lyngdoh, said that during the last five years, the fast track court in Shillong had disposed off 208 cases, while the Jowai and Tura courts had disposed off 239 cases and 213 cases respectively.

Besides the ad hoc Judge, six more people are employed in each fast track court in the State.
