Meghalaya reach hockey final

 SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s hockey team at the 27th North East Games 2013 earned a place in the final on Wednesday by beating the team from Mizoram 5-3.

The final, to be held at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Imphal, is scheduled for Thursday when Meghalaya will take on the home side, Manipur.

Meghalaya reached the final after defeating Mizoram by five goals to three in the semis.

The state scored three goals in the first half, while their opponents scored one.

The second half was a closer affair; both teams managed to score two goals each.

In the other semifinal match, Manipur defeated Tripura 9-0.

Meghalaya and Manipur topped the list from Group B and Group A respectively on Tuesday, a day of double delight for Meghalaya as the team defeated Tripura and Assam by commanding margins 12-1 and 12-0 respectively.

According to television reports on Wednesday, Manipur are currently top of the medals table in the Games, followed by Assam.
