Formulation of rules demanded

SHILLONG: HSPDP legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has demanded that the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Rules, 2012 should be formulated at the earliest. “The formulation of these rules is of critical importance considering the increasing number of broken families,” Basaiawmoit said during the question Hour in the Assembly on Wednesday.
In reply, Stamp and Registration Minister AL Hek said that the Cabinet recently had detailed deliberations on this matter even as informing that they are at present seeking the views and opinions of the various stakeholders.
Maintaining that the Government is committed to complete the exercise of formulating the rules, he however said that it would be difficult to give any tentative deadline.
‘ITI electricity bills cleared’

SHILLONG: Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh admitted that the Industrial Training Institute in Nongstoin has been devoid of electricity for the past six months.
“The reason which has led to this problem is because the matter about the non-payment of the electricity bills was not brought to the notice of the directorate,” Lyngdoh said while replying to a question raised by HSPDP legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit during the Question Hour in the Assembly on Wednesday.
The pending bills were cleared on April 3 last.
Informing that the institute provides trainings in carpentry and wireman, he said that the practical’s classes for the wireman course could not be conducted for the past six months while adding that the institute has made necessary arrangement to cover the lost.
‘Hostel construction funds sanctioned’

SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Education Minister Prof RC Laloo informed that fund for construction of hostels for rural students was sanctioned during the last fiscal year.
While replying to a question raised by UDP legislator Dr Donkupar Roy on Wednesday, Prof Laloo said that the Centre has released an amount of Rs 6.30 crore as grants and the balance amount would be adjusted from the State share. “A total number of 7 hostels would be constructed in all the seven district headquarters of the old districts,” Deputy Chief Minister said.
Stadium construction delay questioned

SHILLONG: HSPDP legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, during the Question hour of the Assembly on Wednesday raised the issue of the indoor stadium at Madanriting, foundation stone for which was laid by former Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh on December 13, 2008.
“The long cherished dream of the people of Madanriting to have an indoor stadium never materialized since the project never took off,” the HSPDP legislator said.
Sports and Youth Affairs Zenith M Sangma in his reply said that a total amount of Rs 64.1 lakh proposed was earmarked in anticipation of getting the requisite funds.
‘In August 8 2008, a tender was floated. With the funds not being availed, the project stands cancelled since the scheme could not be sanctioned,” Sangma said.
While refusing to give any assurance, Sangma said that the issue of sanctioning the project would totally depend on the availability of funds.
