Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi Friday maintained that his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi’s projection as probable prime ministerial candidate of the BJP will not impact the Congress’ fortunes in the next Lok Sabha elections.
Branding Modi a ‘pro rich’ leader, Gogoi claimed that he was more successful in uplift of the poorer section of people in his state than his Gujarat counterpart.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme at Mangaldai, Gogoi said the Gujarat chief minister hogged more limelight than him since the latter worked for the rich.
‘He espouses the cause of the rich, the rich have grown richer under him. Hence he is more in news,’ the Assam chief minister said.
He added, ‘I work for the poor and under-privileged. In my state, uplifting the condition of the poor is priority.’ To a question if Congress’ fortunes will be adversely affected if Modi becomes the Opposition’s prime ministerial candidate, Gogoi said it will have no bearing on his party’s results.
