Kolkata: A Trinamool Congress MP has threatened violence if anyone dares to harm party leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, attracting criticism from the opposition.
“Whoever raises a hand on our mother and leader Mamata Banerjee, we will break that hand,” Kalyan Bandopadhyay said in Hooghly district on Sunday.
Bandopadhyay, who has a history of making hate speeches, denounced the CPI-M and the Congress.
He used derogatory language while referring to former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and state Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya.
The speech attracted immediate condemnation.
“What more revenge do they want? They have already broken over a hundred hands, destroyed many offices. They are still coming out with threats?” CPI-M’s Sujon Chakraborty said.
Congressman Abdul Mannan also slammed Bandopadhyay. “What more can you expect from a person like him?” said Mannan.
Mamata and her finance minister Amit Mitra were earlier heckled by students activists affiliated to the CPI-M in New Delhi. (IANS)
