SOT official’s wife assaulted

 SHILLONG: A case has been registered against one Chuba Marak for allegedly assaulting the wife of a police officer of the SOT based in Tura.

Sources informed that the accused was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with the husband of the victim. Narrating the incident, the victim said that the accused had come to her house late at night on Monday and assaulted her after she (victim) identified herself as the wife of the SOT official.

Later, the accused fled in an unidentified black Scorpio, but the victim was able to identify the accused and a case was lodged in this regard.

Upon further investigation, it was found that the husband had been ill treating the wife for quite some time and even beat her up many her time.

The victim’s eldest child, who is nine years old confirmed the fact and said he had been witness to such beatings. According to sources within the house, the story has been a long one of violence, with the subdued wife not retorting back. The incident occurred at the Police Reserve Quarters in the heart of Tura.

When contacted, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said that the district administration was trying to ascertain the facts of the case.

“We would definitely intervene into the matter if required,” he added.
