Guwahati: In order to prevent penetration of Maoists to the under developed easternmost sub-division of Sadiya in Assam, Governor J B Patnaik called upon coordinated proactive strategy to facilitate over-all economic development and generation of employment avenues in the area.

The Governor called a meeting of high level officials of all concerned departments of the state, the administrative officers of Tinsukia and Sadiya and other officials at Raj Bhavan on Monday for the purpose.

Patnaik termed the Sadiya Sub-division of Tinsukia district as a most deprived and under developed sub-division and urged all officials present to set pragmatic targets for speedy development of the area and ensure covering every family of the sub-division in the development process.

Expressing his displeasure at the feeble progress of developmental activities of some departments as was assured to him during his last visit to the sub-division, the Governor asked of the officers to be more proactive, target oriented and to act positively to achieve these targets so that all-round development of the area could become a reality within the shortest possible time.

Speaking about the risk of the penetration of Naxalite activism in the area, the Governor said that in order to eliminate such problems, “We must ensure the development of the area by actively undertaking employment generation of every qualified or semi-qualified youth of every family of the sub-division through gainful employment.”

He insisted that every family must be covered within a month’s time. He directed the officials to identify the avenues of employment so that opportunities could immediately be created.

“Maximum employment must be given to young people”, he said.

The Governor emphasised that Sadiya provided tremendous scope for development of Dairy farming and suggested that Dairy Farmers’ Cooperatives should be formed at every village, which should be federated under a Village Milk Federation.

The Governor also insisted on training up local manpower for developing progressive fisheries on a commercial scale.

The Governor said, “Employment benefits should reach every household; no family should be left out of the development process in the sub-division. The poor should not be left out.”
