SHILLONG: The Laban house where Ramakrishna Mission founder Swami Vivekananda stayed in 1901, during his visit here, will be the origin of ‘Vivek Rath’ while taking a procession through the city’s major thoroughfares to Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre (RKMVCC) located at Quinton Road to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and Platinum Jubilee of RK Mission, Shillong celebrations.
The platinum jubilee and 150th birth anniversary joint celebrations are organized by RK Mission, Shillong.
The Rath, which is a chariot / tableau with Swamiji’s statue, will be received by Seng Khasi at Mawlai preceded by its reception by the Hindu Welfare Society at Nongpoh and in Umiam by Dipayan Chakraborty, general secretary (in-charge organization), BJP, Meghalaya.
The tableau started its journey from Dhubri, Assam on April 23 which was flagged off by Ardhendu Dey, Minister for Irrigation and Soil Conservation, Assam covering – all the important places where Swamiji had set foot in this region – Gauripur, Bilasipara, Chapar, Goalpara, Krishnai, Dudhnai and Boko before culminating at RK Mission, Guwahati on April 24.
In Bilasipara, Goalpara and Krishnai the chariot will be received by the respective Ramakrishna Sevashrama.
It will embark for Shillong from Kamakhya Temple following a programme on April 25 at 10am and will reach here at 5pm on the same day. During this trip, the chariot will be received by Bhadra Kaliswaree Mandir at Jorabat.
The chariot will halt at RK Mission Dispensary premises at Laitumkhrah on April 25 followed by another halt in Sanatan Dharmasabha Harisabha on April 26. On the morning of April 27, the chariot will proceed from the Laban house at Batti Bazar to RKMVCC where it will be received by Revered Swami Prabhanandaji Maharaj, Vice-President, RK Mission, Belur Math, West Bengal. After the arrival, change of Vedi and photos of the Holy Trio (Swami Vivekananda, Sri Ramakrishna and Sri Ma Sarada Devi) will be followed by public meeting, cultural programmes, devotional songs by monks of Ramakrishna Order and a drama “Veer Sanyasi Vivekananda” to be performed by the volunteers of RK Mission, Silchar
